In partnership with Form Studios, REMEDY Films, a leading video production company, recently co-hosted a free virtual production workshop aimed at providing producers, directors, and video & film production industry professionals with an introduction to this groundbreaking technology. It was hosted using Form Studio’s very own LED volume and virtual production studio located north of Atlanta, GA in Buford.
What is Virtual Production?
Virtual production is a cutting-edge production opportunity that combines real-time computer rendering in Unreal Engine, video plates, or live-action footage, with a virtual set to create an immersive digital environment where filmmakers can capture scenes in a virtual environment. It integrates physical sets, actors, and props with virtual scenes, empowering filmmakers to visualize and manipulate with full control the digital world in real time, thereby enhancing storytelling possibilities.
The Virtual Production Workshop
REMEDY Films, known for its pioneering spirit and commitment to pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling, organized a free virtual production workshop aimed at demystifying the technology and equipping local Atlanta video production and film professionals with the necessary tools to begin incorporating it into their creative processes or get their foot in the door to understanding this new, ground breaking technology. The workshop was designed to provide participants with an introduction to virtual production and showcase its vast potential through hands-on demonstrations and an interactive seminar, whether they’re working on 15 second video ads to full length feature films. Attendees learned about topics that touched on key components of virtual production such as camera tracking, the LED volume stage, pre production process of creating a set for a virtual production stage, the differences from using green screens to LED walls as well as its effects on lighting scenes, benefits of in camera visual effects for post production, virtual scouting for digital assets, and the effects of seeing the virtual scene on an actor’s performance.

The attendees were introduced to a variety of tools, techniques, and terminology such as real-time rendering in Unreal Engine, motion tracking, foreground set design, and virtual camera set ups. Under the guidance of REMEDY’s experienced directors and virtual production experts, participants had the chance to interact with virtual environments, ask questions, see Unreal Engine at work, explore the process of integrating digital assets into live-action footage, and understand the technical aspects of the virtual production process.
